12 Shots of Christmas: No. 12

The Challenge: Two people, six bars, 12 shots -- now complete.

The Players: Kerry Leonard, Metromix producer and Thomas Hardwicke, Metromix photographer and contributor.

Shot No. 12: The pumpkin pie shot at Baileys, creatively mixed by Austin, savored by Thomas.

Ingredients: Voyant Chai Cream liqueur, Absolut Vanilla vodka, pumpkin spice liqueur and a dollop of whipped cream.

Price: $4.50

What it takes like: An earthy, homemade slice of pumpkin pie. Austin, the bartender, certainly thought outside of the box for both Kerry's and my holiday shot. He wasn't even a little bit intimidated when we told him he was the last bartender on the circuit. Using Voyant Chai Cream liqueur gave an earthy taste to this holiday classic. I count pumpkin pie as a holiday treat, because we start our holiday shopping the day after Thanksgiving, when you still have a few spare pies around. Topping off the shot was cinnamon and whipped cream, further selling the autheticity of the flavors of homemade pumpkin pie.

Voyant is infused with the sweet, spicy flavors of chai tea and totally sold me on the idea that this was a liquid version of pumpkin pie.  The added Absolut Vanilla is crucial to the home-baked appeal. If Kerry and I were to give out awards for this project, Austin would get my vote for most creative interpretation of our challenge, and I think Kerry would probably agree. Again, this is a formidable single shot; I'd put it in the sip-slowly-and-enjoy category for sure.

Take on the challenge and try out this unusual, yet surprisingly tasty drink.

And now that we are through, it's time to gum a roll of Tums and lay off the sneaky pete for a bit -- well, at least until Wednesday night. Cheers!
