The Tipsy Turtle
Apple Pie Shot
The Price: $3.00
Ingredients: Everclear, vodka and secrets
When I first heard about this assignment, I knew one of my stops would have to be the Tipsy Turtle. I recalled their apple pie shot from a previous visit. Much like grandma used to, bartender and expert drink-mixer Heather puts a lot of love into her recipe. Seriously, she spends about three hours cooking all the initial ingredients before adding some infused liquors. Believe me when I say you cannot taste the alcohol in this drink, at all. Not even a little bit. This is the very definition of a danger drink. This could be poured over vanilla ice cream for an apple pie dessert.
At the risk of sounding redudant, this tastes exactly like apple pie. Inside of this golden chalice swirls essences of cinnamon, sugar and sweet Granny Smith apples. It's the closest thing to a perfect shot I can imagine. What's more American than apple pie? The greatest quality of this drink is also its only downfall. It's both extremely boozy and very drinkable. So, much like real apple pie, one probably shouldn't have more than a couple of these without expecting tummy-rumbling consequences.
Although the Turtle isn't open on July 4, run in and grab this and other shots right before or after the holiday. I also recommend their alligator bite, created from berry and melon liqueurs and a touch of Jagermeister.
