Like Tupac vs. Biggie. But with gin, instead of glocks.
NEW ORLEANS—Down here at Tales of the Cocktail things have been pretty tipsy and outrageous, with a large presence of mixologists from both the East and West Coasts. Capitalizing on an age-old East vs. West rivalry, Lush Life staged a Spirited Dinner at GW Fins that pitted left and right frenemies against each other in a four (or was it five?) course dinner paired with two cocktails for each course—one from the "East" and another from the "West."
With team members "competing" against each other providing Team East included Richie Boccato of PKNY (who got tattooed at the restaurant on a dare), Jason Littrell of Death & Co (who played the bongos), bad boy John Lermayer from The Florida Room in Miami and Don Lee of PDT (who set fire to the sidewalk).
Representing the West Coast were Jackie Patterson, Anu Apte, Jon Santer, Dave Shenaut, Marcos Tello of Bols Genever, Keith Waldbauer, Brandon Wise and Rocky Yeh. As the night wore on and more cocktails were brought to the table, we were less and less sure of what was going on, when all of a sudden a gaggle of Texan bartenders invaded the party and basically set fire to the joint—and themselves. Their ringleader was a fire breathing, bourbon swilling crazy person who set fire to his own face with his antics and had to be doused. Check please!
