We are from Australia, but visited Table Rock Lake for two weeks in Nov.2012. We stumbled onto The Lakehouse by chance as it is definitely off the beaten path in Indian Point. We were immediately treated like "family" and were even invited to their special Thanksgiving dinner. We couldn't make it as we already had other obligations. However we made many visits there over the two weeks and always thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The two regular staff there, Smiley and Todd are exceptionally welcoming and gracious. And the food there is delicious. Most items are Smiley's recipes. If you get to Indian Point, search out The Lakehouse. It is only a few miles south of Silver Dollar City.

Just had a visitor from mighty Mo. name of Ray. He was higher than a Kite. Had to send him flying low with the big rig you know. Told me about the Shaved Beaver while he was drinkin' a Busch...go figure. Gotta be a real nice place or they wouldn't have sent Ray up here to tell us all about it. Have to ask my good friend Amber over in Wentzeville to wander out that way and check it out.

Worst bar ever!!! Went the other night thinking to have a great night.....but I was wrong!!!!!! Came in with my wife sat at the downstairs bar.first off as we walked in the hostesses greeted us with lack luster smiles and a bit of attitude. The "bartender" whos name I think was Melissa was first off looked like she was just down right mad at the world and very slow on the draw to even greet us when we sat down. Then to top it off she made us feel like we were being a burden just by sitting at the bar and with no enthusiasm asked us if we were eating when we replied she almost gave out a sigh of frustration. So pass that honestly the food was horrible, took too long to get out to us the beer...,don't even get me started on the "beer".....will NEVER go back and will be suggesting that my friends do the same.

Have driven by the roost hundreds of times but had never stopped in til tonight the place was decently busy.walked in and instantly was greeted by some wonderful young ladies, awesome atmosphere, ended up having a "roost burger" which by the way putting an egg on a burger.......genius! Got my food in a timely fashion looked great and tasted even better and how can you beat 6$ buckets of beer! I will be back again and again love it!

I never talk down about a business. No matter how much I may disagree with their business practice, I don't say anything publicly. But... never, EVER, go to Wayo Sushi in Springfield. We walk in with two gift cards to buy a celebratory meal after receiving a new job. After our meal, the waitress gives us several different reasons as to why she can't honor them, so we ask for the manager. He comes over, and after informing us of the same, he proceeds to insult my wife, multiple times, insults me, and tells us that if we don't pay, he is going to "call the police and have you arrested". I went over and explained to him our financial situation, that this is why we were here after being return customers several times months ago. I tried to settle with him, and the only way he let us leave was by me giving him all the cash out of my wallet and giving him a stack of my credit/debit cards and tell him to try running all of them, and whichever one worked, just do it, so we could go. After he then ran everything for FULL PRICE, and overdrafting us with a $45 fee, we left. Whether or not this was our mistake, a misunderstanding between a customer and owner should NEVER be handled in this way. We will never be going there again.

Live behind the bar and was told to go visit the Roost for the Cards game. Came in on Taco Tuesdays. Best tacos and only .50 cents. $6 pitchers and other menu items every time the cardinals play! Thankful that someone told me about it. Will definetly be going back.

Favorite neighborhood bar! Staff is super friendly and they have different specials every night of the week. All new staff and best fries in town. I definetly would recommend this bar to anyone looking for a change of pace from downtown. Great specials during the Cardinals games for people on a budget!!!!
Obbop wrote about Tamale King Mexican Deli
I spent most of my life living and working amidst the California Chicanos. I KNOW what good, decent and poor Mexican-style food tastes like... and Tamale King is an obvious poor. And I emphasize the poor. I was the only patron in the place when my food was ready. The obviously healthy and hearty male in his 20s shouted out my food was ready. Too lazy to walk a few steps and place the food on the table? Apparently so. With my bad feet and knees I worked my way to an upright position and hobbled to retrieve the food. Unlike other Mexican-style restaurants in the area there was no free tortilla chips and salsa to dip them in. And the price for my food and its skimpy portions was higher than firms giving the freebies. Also be aware that foam-type use-once plates are used and the tableware is a plastic fork and knife. Tamale King offered me the worst dining experience I have had in several years. I do not enjoy writing "bad" reviews but I am conveying my opinion and I am not exaggerating in any way. There was another annoyance; several young children running around and yelling and screaming. In all truthfulness I have eaten tastier Mexican-style food bought in the frozen food section of the grocery store. And the price was less than what I paid for sub-par food and abominable service at Tamale King.

Family style dining, reasonable prices, smoke free for two years. Handbreaded pork tenderloin sandwiches, homemade fried zucchini . Salad bar with fresh cut lettuce, no iceberg. Beer and some wine is available now.

I had the worst experience today at this restaurant. I had been waiting for my lunch for 50 minutes after I placed my order. When I asked how much longer it was going to take, the waitress gave me an attitude and an excuse about a 9 person to go order ahead of me. Shortly thereafter, a person who identified himself as the owner came out and made similar excuses with a similar attitude. After explaining that my steak sandwich was made from scratch and he couldn't do anything about it, he offered to buy a beer and left. It was insulting that there was no apology and that neither the owner nor the server could accept responsibility for screwing up. I had ordered my meal and watched as two other tables received their meals, ate, paid, and left. Two new tables took their places, ordered, received their food, and were waiting on checks when the owner showed up. Interestingly enough, one of the meals that had arrived at the second table was a steak sandwich...presumably made from scratch less carefully than the one I had ordered 50 minutes prior. As I am a professional and have a job, I decided to leave without my meal. As I was paying for my beverage, the owner ran up and made me take the meal to go and pay for it. I will never return to this restaurant again and I hope others will force this owner to treat his future customers with more respect.

I have indulged in the excellent breakfast fare served here several times and walked away sated, hefting my well-fed aging body out of the comfy booth with scraped clean plates left behind showing my attempts to ingest every last bit of yumminess. My fried eggs are not only prepared as I desire (over easy with the yolk still runny) but turn out pretty, not at all akin to the eggs I fry at home. The pancakes are perfectly done and the hash browns have the crunchy exterior I ask for and, well, everything is basically tasty!!! The waitresses are bubbly and ensure the coffee cup is full and ready to converse if that is your desire or if you want to be left alone or only want the coffee cup kept full while you read the newspaper or converse with friend or whatever the attentive waitresses meet your needs and desires. I recommend this firm and, personally, I try to patronize locally owned non-chain non-franchise feeding firms. When I DO patronize a chain-type franchised firm I do look for indications of a local owner. I shun corporate-owned joints with the owner(s) dwelling afar. That is a personal preference and NOT the sole reason I recommend College Street Cafe. Eat here and revel in it!!!

I was recently in Springfield for a Skepticon IV conference and during out lunch break, 1100 people descended upon the local eateries of Springfield. I was lucky enough to end up at Pickleman's and while the line was quite long the service was fast and the staff were very professional. Everyone in the restaurant got through and done eating in time to return, on time, back at the Gillioz Theater. I have the Turkey Sandwich which was toasted and filled with my favorite choice of toppins and a side salad, which was fantastic I might add. Several people had the soup and said it was very good. I hear no complaints and I look forward to going back next year for all my meals.
