Co-writer Nicholas Stoller on the origin of the story…
"Around when 'Sarah Marshall' came out, Jason Segel had a meeting at Disney. They were talking about which properties he was into and he said Muppets. He called me and we wondered 'where have the Muppets been?' It seemed like a great opportunity to do a comeback movie. From there it very quickly developed into 'what makes a group break up, what are the bittersweet things that happen when a group breaks up—a group of friends, or in this case a group of Muppets.'"
