In a way, Journey has come full circle; they were originally conceived as a for-hire backing band, with a lineup comprised of notable Santana defectors. Since then, they’ve been through some six different frontmen, although their iconic lead singer remains, of course, the impossibly high-voiced Steve Perry, who joined the band in 1977 and left for good in 1998. Following Perry's departure, Steve Augeri took the lead vocalist position; that didn’t work out, and after one other failure, the Perry-less group settled on Arnel Pineda (seen above, right), a Filipino YouTube sensation that guitarist Neal Schon (left) found singing Journey covers online.
