Fischerspooner
The New York-based duo of musician Warren Fischer (right) and performance artist Casey Spooner (left) got their start doing experimental theatre pieces in Greenwich Village, where Fischer's catchy synth-pop soundtracks and Spooner's over-the-top theatrics won them fans with the downtown art crowd and club kids alike. Their debut album, "#1", and elaborately choreographed (and unapologetically lip-synced) live shows made them standard-bearers for New York electroclash in 2001, but the duo soon decided to distance themselves from that scene: "all of a sudden everything was hot pink and s---ty electro," Spooner said in 2005 interview with Pitchfork. After a well-received stab at more mainstream dance-pop with 2005's "Odyssey," released on Capitol Records, the duo has decided to go the indie route with their third album, "Entertainment," which they're self-releasing in May.
