In my dreams, I eat only bacon.
Bacon and eggs for breakfast, a BLT for lunch and bacon-wrapped beef for dinner.
But I don’t live in a dreamworld (which could explain why my dog is not, in fact, the president-elect). I live here, in Springfield, with lame-o homemade turkey sandwiches and carrot sticks and salads comprising my meals.
But when I can begin the day with a little bacon, as I did today, rejoice.
Well, the bacon was a supporting player but that’s OK with me. My coworker Amy and I met for brunch at Gailey’s Breakfast Café for our weekly meeting. I stuffed my bacon-hole (eww) with “The Executive”: a huge pile of Asiago and cilantro-scrambled eggs, hash browns, wheat toast, tea and, of course, my precious bacon. It was glorious. It has to be one of the best breakfast deals in town, considering the volume and quality of food. Rather than the hash browns, bacon and toast, my other options were sweet browns, sausage or ham and biscuits and gravy, respectively. I will give the sweet browns a whirl next time I’m there.
Amy, a fellow lover of salty breakfast choices, went with the “Bear Hug” – an assemblage of breakfast delights so vast and so pork-heavy that it made my gigantic plate of food look like a Lean Cuisine. It was so big, it took up two full plates. Plate one housed the southern-style biscuits and gravy, which are her favorite in town. The two split, pillowy biscuits are drenched in thick, delicious, sausage gravy and are plentiful and filling enough for two people. Plate number two featured two eggs your way (she chose over medium) hash browns or sweet browns (she went hash) and a cut of what Homer Simpson once called “a wonderful, magical animal” – she chose ham.
Our orders each cost $6.95. So with a tea for me and a large orange juice for her, we sauntered out of Gailey’s, happy and full, for under a sawbuck.
It’s what dreams are made of.

The food is great here but make sure you have at least 2 hours to eat. The service takes forever. We waited 30 minutes for a table, then 30 minutes...
