Nachos -- $7.99
First, a note about our server, Josh. The hostess seated us and within seconds Josh appeared tableside, taking drink orders and writing his name upside down with a crayon on our butcher paper tablecloth. We (my lunch partner and I) sat in slackjawed fascination at that feat, and I mentioned that if I had tried that it would wind up looking like cave drawings. Josh was super friendly and was on point when it came to the ordering and serving. He even brought us a spare glass of ice to replenish our iced teas. My lunch partner was thrilled.
We asked his opinion regarding an appetizer and he recommended the wings, fried mushrooms and these. I'm not a big wing fan (too much work, not enough payoff) and my lunch pal has nightmares about mushrooms, so nachos it was.
As is often the case, the serving size could be best described as "industrial" -- and also as always, we put a major dent in it. While not the most spectacular nachos ever (I found the chips a little too thin for my taste), they were certainly very good. We noted how well-distributed the ingredients were and how there weren't too many naked chips -- a challenge in good nacho assembly. Chili, refried beans, monterey jack, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, olives, jalapenos, green onions, sour cream and guacamole are the standard toppers, but my lunch pal asked if we could do the guac, cream and 'penos on the side. That's cool. More for me. Good? Yes. Great? Probably not. But that didn't stop me from overeating.
Other appetizers include wings, onion rings, cheese fries, potato skins, queso, salsa, mini wraps and more. Everything except for the sampler platters are about $8.
