Monte Cristo -- $7.99
This was a controversial decision for my lunch partner. "Oooh, Monte Cristo!" she said, adding, "Ehh, I should get a wrap instead." I reminded her that Rome wasn't built in a day, and a restaurant review is not built on wraps. Actually, I never said that. Instead I told her to order the dang sandwich. She did.
A Monte Cristo, if you're not familiar, is a ham, turkey and cheese sandwich dipped in egg and pan-fried. Magoo's version forgoes the pan altogether and drops that number in the Fryolater. The result was akin to a funnel cake with some ham in it. Totally delicious and totally scandalous. When Josh set the plate in front of my lunch buddy, she looked at it wide-eyed and said, "Oh, why in the hell did I order this? [takes a bite] MMmmmm!!"
The sandwich came sprinkled with powdered sugar and with a side of honey for dipping. She doesn't like honey so she went without. She said she was missing something to dip it in, but acknowledged that honey was probably what it needed. Ah well. She didn't quite make it through one quarter of the sandwich given its size and calorie count, but best believe it went home with her.
The french fries threatened to steal the show. Crispy, generously cut and seasoned to perfection, they were being picked at well past the point of consumption detente. Those are a must-try.
