Fondue me baby
This is entirely too much food for two people. But when has that stopped us before? Besides, getting this Fondue Combo ($9.25) was a purely altruistic act done as a gesture of good will for public awareness. It has nothing to do with the fact that I would eat Styrofoam peanuts if they were dipped in melted cheese.
The combo comprises, from left to right, spinach artichoke "fondue," bruschetta topping, roasted red pepper hummus and queso. This bounty of molten glory came with super soft pita triangles, cheesy toasted French bread, fried flour tortillas and tri-colored corn tortilla chips. If you run out of items to dip, you need to reassess your priorities and start piling on more of the good stuff.
The spin-art dip, as my friend Thomas calls is, is really, really delicious. It has sort of a nuanced Italian essence to it -- more herb-y than its more cut-and-dry brethren elsewhere. The bruschetta topping was more of a chopped antipasto salad than the traditinal diced tomatos and garlic. Chopped artichokes, tomatoes, olives, garlic and basil were marinated in an herby vinaigrette and mixed with feta cheese. It was really different and quite delightful. Next came the hummus, a smokier more pungent variety than most but quite addictive nevertheless. Lastly, there was the queso. This was probably the least remarkable of the dips, but I say that because the other ones were that good. If melted cheese plays second fiddle to hummus, you know you're on to something.
I ate til I was full... then went back and ate more until I was immobilized.
