You may be asking yourself, as I was, why are we just now reviewing Ziggie's? Well, this local chainlet of restaurants may be opening its fourteenth location, but it began right here in Springfield. So although it is technically a chain, it's local. Plus the newest addition to their long line of successful restaurants is in the snazzy building formerly occupied by Bailey's on Walnut Street, Downtown.
The interior of the newly opened Ziggie’s Sidewalk Café is modern and clean. I just wish I could say the same about the food. This was the first review I’ve done where neither my dining companion nor myself was really wowed by any one menu item. Usually there is at least one exceptional offering that stands out from the rest, thus prompting a return. Unfortunately, every item we tried was blasé and, frankly, disappointing. If entertaining an out-of-towner, I would hesitate to take them here, because this is an inaccurate portrayal of Springfield’s culinary scene. At least, I hope it is. Not a top choice for the serious foodie, this place satisfies quick lunch and late night crowds, with 24-hour service, four days out of the week.
